We live some distance outside of Reno so were not able to make this one but it looks like a good time was had. Thanks for the great article. Couldn't really see a thousand people in your pictures though. I really liked the last picture and the slogan - liberty a stimulus we can afford. Sums it up well.

The photo of someone holding a copy of “Atlas Shrugged” got my attention. In my experience, the vast majority of people who claim to be fans of Ayn Rand either haven’t really read any of her work or don’t understand it if they have. They simply repeat what others have told them and incorrectly believe the entirety of Ayn Rand’s philosophy is, “Capitalism is good. Big government is bad.” It’s much more than that and one who latches on to only that part of what she said clearly does not understand her arguments or chain of logic. Other of her conclusions get far less publicity because they would be difficult, if not impossible, to incorporate into the mainstream Conservative agenda. For instance, she said the initiation of force against others is immoral (so by her logic the invasion of Iraq was immoral), she was pro-legal abortion, against censorship of any kind, and anti-religion. I hear none of this when being preached to about how “pro-conservative” she was. For the record, I do like her writing and for those with patience and a lot of time she’s worth reading. Also for the record, I don’t agree with everything she espoused. It’s a matter of deciding which is the bath water and which is the baby (Orrin, you better figure that one out soon!).
