What I Learned in 2007

January 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment

2007 was a great year for me. I finally got grown up life underway, by which I mean I have a real job that doesn’t have a definitive end date, I no longer have homework to do, and I live in a house that I intend to live in for quite a while. And like every year, I can look back and think about what I’ve learned since 365 days ago when I was less wizened and experienced.

  • I learned that a person can blog a lot more when they’re sitting in several dull lectures every day with a laptop open in front of him “taking notes” than when you have a real job.
  • I learned that despite the more limited blogging time, it’s still way better to be a lawyer than a law student.
  • I learned that you can fake your knowledge of Article 3 of the Uniform Commercial Code and still pass a bar exam.
  • I learned that living in a house is WAY better than living in a condo or a temporary cheap apartment you’re staying in while you hunt for a real house.
  • I learned that when you drug a cat for a long drive, she’ll still yowl regularly – it’ll just sound funnier.
  • I learned that all that law they taught us in law school actually works in the courtroom – usually, anyway.
  • I learned that Turducken makes a great Thanksgiving meal.

But mostly this year I re-discovered daily what I have known for a long time – that I’m incredibly blessed, that I’m surrounded by some of the best people in the world, and that life is fantastic in this greatest of all nations.
