What Makes a Democrat?

March 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I saw this column from a disaffected Hillary supporter in the Seattle Times today, complaining about the Clinton campaign’s “race baiting.”  The silliness of the article was boundless, but this line in particular caught my eye:

When a kid [sic], the sight of black people being mowed down with water hoses in Alabama made a Democrat out of me before I knew what a Democrat was.

Since the racists hosing down black people in Alabama were largely Democrats, and since all of them believed in the very un-Conservative view that skin color matters more than the individual, does that mean he was inspired to become a Democrat because he also hated black people and wanted to see them assaulted with fire hoses?

I mean, I’m just askin’.

And if it’s really race-baiting by campaign surrogates that gets his goat, does that mean he’ll be voting for John McCain after hearing Barack Obama’s pastor imply that Hillary is a racist because she “fits the mold” of the rich white oppressor?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  I don’t miss Seattle one little bit.
