The Need for Speed?

February 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Remember when the bailout had to be passed NOW NOW NOW?  When every second counted?  When every hour that went by meant hundreds of lost jobs that could otherwise be saved?  Obama himself wrote of the urgency of each day:

Because each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their homes. And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse. (emphasis added)

Each day!!!!

Most importantly, remember when it had to be voted on before anyone could read it, lest a second was lost and another job was lost with it?

So they voted on it, sight unseen.  They signed it with one hand, and crossed their fingers with another – nothing less than a willing dereliction of duty.

And when the exhausted Congressional Democrats (the Republicans (for once) knew better than to sign a contract without reading it first) finished it just in the nick of time, and presented it to Obama, he signed it immediately, without the wasted time and expense of the usual fanfare. For he knew that he must act with the same urgency with which he spoke.

Oh, wait.  No.  He left it sitting on his desk over the long weekend.  He had to take his private jet (actually, my private jet) back to Chicago to make a Valentine’s date at a pricey, exclusive Chicago restaurant.

Besides, you can’t sign a bill without the proper pomp and circumstance, and that all takes time to put together.  That this time could have been better spent to allow legislators to read the largest expenditure bill they would ever sign never crossed his mind.  No!  He had to fly in on that private jet and show the people that Their President Cares.  That Hope Has Come.

How can anyone still take Obama seriously?  If the urgency he claimed was real, why was it so easily disregarded when he wanted a little 3 day break?  Did those lost jobs not matter?

Either Obama was lying about the urgency, or he willfully abandoned his post just as times were the most critical.  That’s it.  Those are the only two options.

So who still takes this guy seriously?  Who can ever trust him again?

(That question is real.  If you raise your hand, I have some Nevada oceanfront property to sell you.  I swear.  Just take my word for it that you don’t have time to read the contract, but if you don’t sign it, DISASTER BEYOND YOUR IMMAGINATION WILL OCCUR!!!!)
