Instapundit posted a video of Jon Stewart making fun of Obama’s inagural address as sounding very Bushian. It’s quite funny, and I have to say I’m glad to see Stewart getting the jabs in early. I worry seriously about the Presidency becoming a worshiped personality cult, and a little cynical humor goes a long way towards a healthy skepticism of government.
But the last line caught my attention. The fake reporter says,
I guess when Obama says this stuff, I don’t think he really means it. And that gives me hope.
This bit was a joke, but I know there are people who feel this way, and it’s sad. To have to hope the President is a liar so you can keep supporting him wholeheartedly.
I’ve said it before – the hangover once real decisions start being made and real consequences start being reaped will be deep and abiding.
Besides, I like Obama a lot more when I can laugh at him, and when other people are chuckling too. It gives me hope that his arrogance will stay in check, harnessed into useful confidence. And while I’ll never be on board with his leftist policies, I want very much to like the man.

Watching the video made me consider another happy thought about the Obama Era – shows like the Daily Show will be funny again!
Amen.
“shows like the Daily Show will be funny again!”
I assume you meant, funny to YOU again. Lots of people have found the Daily Show consistently funny. Many of them will now find it unfunny for the next four-to-eight years.
I found the Daily Show consistently funny until mid-2004. After that it got slanted, predictable, and unfunny about 50% of the time. The interviews really took a hit. There were still some fantastic bits, but the overall snideness towards conservatives instead of the universal bemusement that has previously made it one of my favorite shows kept me from watching it.
I understand it was always funny to some people, but I think it’s overall quality and hunor objectively took a hit. I mean, I can not enjoy a movie because I’m not the demographic, and still recognize objective quality.
For example, I know it’s a bunch of lefties over at SNL, but in my mind their political humor (even Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin) was funny, hard hitting, and biting, but almost ALWAYS kept it above the belt. But regurgitating worn out Bush jokes just got tired.
