Huh huh. Huh huh.

One cannot travel through the Pacific Northwest without seeing a lot of interesting place names. Many of their origins come from ancient Indian languages, others from bold explorers. But one thing you can count on – many of them can bring out the 13 year old in all of us. They could not pass unremarked upon.

Well, I suppose they could. But what’s the fun in that?

Everyone who has ever driven to Whistler to ski has crossed the Nooksack River and giggled about it. But can you imagine having gone to the High School?

This just speaks for itself.

“Nick nack, Chilliwack…” Apparently, the founders of this town blamed its name on the original Indian name for the area, but I think they were just high and thought it sounded cool.

This was a war memorial we saw in Prince George (I think). I’m all for honoring the fallen, but is there anything “glorious” about the fact that they’re dead? I salute the sentiment and the names on the monument, but there was something startling about the header.

This had to have been named solely so kids could swear in Canadian geography class…

This works on a number of levels.

Would you buy a camper from these guys? Just don’t use the built in microwave.

This was just cool. There’s nothing like entering a dark tunnel on a winding highway that proclaims itself to be the portal to Hades. And onward we went…
