Announcing Nevada Politics Online – Blogs, News, And Other Websites

March 1st, 2009 · 11 Comments

One of the things that frustrated me when I first moved to Nevada a few years ago was the seeming dearth of local political blogs – at least Conservative ones.  I say “seeming” because  it wasn’t that they weren’t there, it was more that I just had a hard time finding them.

A healthy and interesting blogosphere requires that people can actually find each other, since that’s a prerequisite to conversation, consideration, and debate.  Most blogrolls (mine is no exception) are limited in scope and one-sided in ideology.

But there’s another, more immediate reason.  Ron at Local So-and-So points out that the Conservative leadership over at this year’s CPAC still doesn’t get the critical value of the online conservative community.  A few weeks ago, John McCain’s daughter wrote a piece expressing similar frustration to mine about the Republican Party just not getting it.  More locally, at our last county Republican Central Committee meeting, the leadership was talking about “using texting” (as in, “Who here uses texting?”), seemed oblivious to local independent bloggers, and were talking vaguely about big centralized websites for precinct captains – but couldn’t explain how that would translate to more votes.

At least our local folks are acknowledging the gap, and are taking steps to remedy it – however tenuous those steps might be.  And in the very Conservative spirit of, “I’m not going to sit around and wait for my ‘leadership’ to solve my problems for me,” so am I.

So for my small (for now) contribution, I’ve created a page, linked permanently on the top of the right side of this website (or just click here), which is an attempt at compiling and indexing Nevada’s online political world.

My not-so-hidden ulterior motive is to allow Conservatives to find each other on line, and to harness that combined energy into getting votes out for a freer, less socialized Nevada and USA.  But because I believe sunlight is the best disinfectant, (and because the Left’s online networking capacity is already well developed and we can learn a thing or two) it’s equally valuable to index ’em all.

This page attempts to be a one-stop-shopping, comprehensive list and index of the Nevada political world on-line.  It will be a continuing work in progress.  If you have a link you’d like me to add, please leave a comment below (until I can get the comments enabled on the page itself).  If you disagree with how things are categorized, make a pitch, but the last word is mine.  Feel free to borrow and use this list for your own purposes, I just ask that you credit me with a link back here.
