Man – If Only Nevada Had, Like, A Really Powerful Senator or Something…

October 2nd, 2011 · 1 Comment

The liberal Nevada View had a post in support of President Obama’s “American Jobs Act,” arguing that it’s going to be especially good for Nevada.  That’s not in and of itself isn’t surprising.  But when I read it, I had to wonder – if it’s so good for Nevada, why hasn’t a single member of Nevada’s House delegation in either party signed on as a co-sponsor?

And on the Senate side, our senior senator is the sole sponsor of the bill.  But even though he’s the Majority Leader, he’s not been able to get a single additional co-sponsor to sign off on the bill.  Not a single arm could apparently be twisted.  And Reid himself doesn’t even seem to be in a hurry to schedule a vote on it.

Man – if only at least one of our Senators had some seniority and influence in that body, maybe this allegedly great bill for Nevadans would get some real support and sail on through!

Oh, wait.

To be honest, the only reason I even sponsored this thing is because when President Obama asked for volunteers to step forward, all those other jerks in my caucus pulled the old "Take a giant step back while the sucker nodded off for a minute" trick.

It’s almost as if even Democrats know the Son of Stimulus bill won’t accomplish anything, and the worst thing that could happen for them both politically and for the nation is for it to be passed, for all that borrowed money to be spent, and then have it be proven in 13 months to be yet another wasteful boondoggle with no actual positive economic effect.  Better for them to let it die, and then blame Republicans for not doing anything at all!  Better for the Dems’ political fortunes, anyway.

What makes the post really sad, though, is that the entire thing is just a VERY lightly edited cut-and-paste from and official White House press release.  The press release is linked, but there’s no acknowledgement whatsoever on The Nevada View that this is just a passed-along press release instead of any kind of independent analysis.

There’s nothing particularly noteworthy about a liberal group supporting proposals from a liberal president.  But if they want to convince anyone except the already converted (a small percentage these days) that this is a good idea, shouldn’t they at least attempt to build some credibility by not just being a puppet for (or plagiarist of) official White House propaganda?

Maybe then they could at least get Shelley Berkley on board…
